Summer sure took its time getting here and then when it finally decided to show up, I had trouble keeping up with everything! I thought that I would bring you up to date on the happenings around here.
These guys came to visit for 5 days!
This kept me hopping and then a few days of recovery time and catch-up time. You know, when you have them as your own they become part of your routine by osmosis. Each new challenge and phase just sort of settles into place and becomes part of the weeks and days of your life. As each day and year of their sweet little lives go on, your routine changes with them. Well………when your routine has changed to just you and your husband, the jolt of your routine going back to life at home with children is EXHAUSTING!!! Don’t misunderstand me here, we LOVE having them but it sure does shake things up. Probably for them just as much as for grandma and grandpa.
After that week came getting ready for and holding the annual garage sale. This year there were four of us contributing to it and it was at my house. There were 3 of us on my quiet little street that had a garage sale at the same time. It paled in comparison to past garage sales but that is O.K. We all got rid of some stuff. We always have to shop each others “junk” before we open the doors and the one thing I came away with was an ashtray! Amazing, huh? One of the other ladies and I were sitting there chatting and she said to me, “You know, that ashtray would make a great birdfeeder.” Ding, ding, ding the bell went off in my head and I immediately snatched it up for my own.
Here it is. I have it stationed out by the edge of the pond amongst the grasses. The birds are nuts over it! I fill it twice a day. Who knew? So keep your eyes open for just such a find girls and boys. It is just perfect. Definitely a “trash to treasure” kind of item.
I also painted the laundry room this past month and will have the big reveal when I have done a few more things. (I actually remembered to take a “before” picture. I know…..amazing.) We are also planning on re-carpeting our basement family room area this summer and updating the master bathroom. So stay tuned for those things as well.
AND it is strawberry season! My favorite berry of all the berries. This past weekend while the hamburgers were on the grill, I made some homemade ice cream with our small counter-top ice cream maker and we had it atop some strawberries and shortcake. It was lovely. And yes, it was gluten-free shortcake. Mike said it was fine. He could hardly tell the difference since it was covered with strawberries and homemade ice cream.
Now that the outdoor temperatures have heated up, I am back to enjoying my coffee ICED in the mornings. And one more piece of a “so-what” kind of trivia for you: this is the only drink I want a straw with. I never use a straw, at a restaurant or anywhere. Just with my iced coffee and then it is a MUST!
I have also signed up for some on-line classes related to my blog. Two blogging classes and one photography class so I am sure that will keep my busy and will result in a better blog. I have already taken a one hour on-line blog seminar and it whetted my appetite. So there will be many changes coming this summer! The time is also almost here for my family’s summer-time weekend get-together. We have chosen South Haven, MI this year. I am planning on taking you all along this year through my blog so stay tuned for that as well.
Frank and Vanessa are also enjoying the warm weather and the many trips outside that we take. I will sign off with one last picture of Vanessa resting up from the fun of summer.
