Well…..Here I am, back at it at last! Life sure has its’ ups and downs doesn’t it? Life gets crazy. As Autumn sets in I am doing the best I can to heal from Adrenal Fatigue. Burning the candle at both ends for 4 years has left me with no more end to burn. From all I read, this will be a process but what better time than Fall and Winter when I am into hibernating anyway! Last week, my inner ear went all “wacky jack” and I had to contend with that as well. I am dizzy enough without things inside my head adding to the mix.
This sign in my living room represents what my home means to me right now while I am healing. My home is my safe place, my retreat, my sanctuary. And much to my dismay, I am quite selfish about who enters my sanctuary. I have always loved having company and hosting get-togethers but am not up to dealing with that right now. Any noise or commotion seems like an intrusion to me. I don’t even turn the TV or radio on until at least 5 o’clock in the evening. I just like to soak up the quiet and hear God’s voice speak to me…
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:28-30
This week, I have been transforming our front room into “My Retreat”! Can you believe that I forgot to take a before picture? I got so into the project and the outcome that I did not document the ugly “before”. On one wall was a huge desk unit that was our home office area. On wall 2 is a hutch that holds treasures from the past: things my Grandma use to have and cherish and pieces that my mom has passed on to me. Wall 3 is the front with the windows and we have always had a chair or sofa there. As you can imagine, a very mismatched space. I never knew if it was a dining room, an office, or a sitting room. I have spent the last several days transforming it into a cozy retreat. And here is the outcome:
I just LOVE it! Last night my “mister” even took his tablet and left the living room where the TV is to enjoy the cozy comforting space. I couldn’t believe it!
I got the new furniture from a neighbor of ours that was moving to Florida and selling everything. It was my Lucky Day! It is oversized and overstuffed and it is like sinking down into a big pillow. Let me take you on a little tour of some of my favorite touches:
The end table above is an old window that I cleaned up, painted, antiqued and put legs on. I made it about eight years ago and it has been living in the storage room for several years. The darling bunny lamp perched atop the book on my “window table” has a shade on it that matches the fabric on my “new to me” furniture. Can you believe it! An exact match! I bought the little lamp on a buying trip to the Merchandise Mart in Chicago while I was working for a retail store here in Shipshewana. I think that trip was about six years ago. It was all meant to be…..sigh.
And perched atop the back of the sofa, presiding over it all, is this sweet faced little doll that I made at least 12 years ago. She has moved from house to house and room to room with us. I think she has found her forever spot here. Well, we have come to the end of this post. I have enjoyed sharing my new space with you and hope it inspires you to create a cozy little nest in your own home where you can hibernate over the winter months.
