One week ago today, the house cleared out from the holidays and became very quiet.
Our future Crime-Fighter went home.
My cookie-decorator and taste tester went home.
Mike and I had driven them to Indianapolis to meet up with Mom and Dad. Their other Grandpa and Grandma and Mike and I had taken turns keeping them the week after Christmas while Mom and Dad went back to work. The switch took place last Friday night. After clearing out our car into theirs and saying our goodbyes, Mike and I headed to a Motel for some quiet. We slept in, had breakfast and did some shopping in Indianapolis before heading home. In this short time span, I started in with the flu.
You know, I don’t think I have ever had the flu before. Back when I was a little girl, the flu was what you had if you were sick in bed with vomiting and diarrhea. Last Sunday, on day two of the flu ordeal, I was scrolling through Pinterest for a cure-all. I happened upon a concoction of:
2 Tablespoons of Honey
2 Tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar
2 Tablespoons of Lemon Juice
You are suppose to put all this on a mug of hot water and drink it.
I used the biggest mug that I had because I figured I wanted to kick this nasty bug “to the curb” and be on the road to recovery. This has got to be one of the worst things I have ever drank. I did manage to get it down. It did not do one thing but start a cycle of vomiting that lasted until the following morning. If you have this ghastly concoction on your own Pinterest board, DELETE it! I am giving this as a Pinterest review FAIL! I can of course laugh about this now but at the time, it was far from funny. The flu bug lasted for a week–a long week but has left the building. I was at the Doctor yesterday to get something for the lingering cough that keeps me and everyone else up all night which from what I hear is the lingering effect of the bug. I am also told, it takes about another week to eradicate the cough and the fatigue. I would say that is where I am at right now. I have not gotten my “WANT TO” back yet. I do not want to do anything. All the Christmas decorations are still up but am hoping to start getting them put away today.
I guess I couldn’t have picked a better week to be house-bound. The below zero temps. and snow make it hard to be out anyway.
Stay warm, stay flu-free. Enjoy this season of rest and renewal.
Of course, Vanessa is doing her part in the “REST” category.
