October is getting ready to close out and according to the weatherman there is a storm coming our way. For those of you that came into Morton Street Coffee for our Hot Cider in the fall, I thought I would pass the recipe on. So run to the store, pull out the crockpot and brew yourself some delicious Hot Cider to drink while you are riding out the blustery Fall weather.
HOT APPLE CIDER
1 gallon apple cider
1 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon cider vinegar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cinnamon sticks
1 orange, sliced
Put the first 4 ingredients into your crockpot and stir to dissolve the brown sugar. My crockpot is not quite big enough for a whole gallon of cider. I had about a cup extra. Now, take your spices and tie them up in a piece of cheesecloth so that they are easier to fish out later. I just happen to have a little muslin spice bag that I put mine in.
Those orange slices make the whole pot look so pretty. Pop the lid on the pot, set it on low, and let it cook for 5 or 6 hours. Don’t throw your cider jug away as you can put any leftovers back in there and keep it in the refrigerator to warm up a cup as you want it. This is such a delicious drink to have on the counter for those fall parties and feasts. It would be great to greet your guests with on Thanksgiving Day. We use to make this by the roaster full at the Coffee Shop as it was a Fall favorite. I hope you and yours love it and include it in your Fall recipe favorites forever more.
As I was out and about this week doing yard work and walking the dogs, I took a few pictures of the soon to be gone flowers and leaves:
A little bit blurry as I took this with my cell phone while holding two dogs but beautiful none-the-less!
The marigolds around the mailbox are trying to hang on!
The corn is dry and ready for our amish neighbor to hitch up his team of horses and harvest it.
Go get yourself a cup of that delicious warm cider, kick back and enjoy the beautiful Autumn weather.
