Hi Folks! Once again I have been absent for some time. What have I been doing you ask? Well, on this weeks agenda is dog-sitting.
My son and his wife have 4 dogs and 2 guinea pigs and they have flown off to Florida for the week. I am so jealous of the sunshine and warm temps they are enjoying that we have booked our own trip to the sunny south. We use to go every year or two and I think it has been 6 years since we have been there. All work and no play has made Lynn a very dull girl.
I thought that I would introduce you to my “charges” for the week. One dog came to stay with us so now there are three dogs in the house. One dog is still at home. She is a giant girl and has a very cozy nest in the garage with access to two acres of room to romp. The pigs (the guinea pigs that is) are at home also. I make the trek twice a day to care for them. The other two dogs have gone to my daughter-in-laws parents. There…I think I have accounted for everyone. Lets get started on the introductions.
This is Miss Winda Sue. She is a wire-haired Jack Russell Terrier. She is quite the busy girl. She use to be a drug sniffing search dog. She may be little but she has a mighty nose. Now she is living the “high-life” of retirement lounging around on the pillows.
If I am in the kitchen she is lounging in there. I had to put her cute striped sweater on her this morning to help take the chill off. She is QUEEN of the kitchen here, lounging on her throne and keeping track of the goings on of her kingdom.
Where are Frank and Vanessa, you ask?
In the spare bedroom ignoring our house guest! They merely tolerate her–thinking they are too busy watching for rabbits and sharing secrets to deal with the likes of her.
Vanessa keeps asking….WHEN is she leaving? I want to be spoiled rotten all by myself.
Meanwhile….Back at the Ranch. This is what greets me everyday when I pull in the driveway.
You are here!!! Yippee!!! I am STARVING. I need some food and some lovin’. She is a giant of a girl and doesn’t know that she could be over that fence in one leap.
Look at that face! Her name is Ruger….yes, just like the gun. After all, when one is a Rottweiller, one needs a fierce name even if you are as meek as a baby.
She stands eye to eye with me when she is up against the fence like that! Today when I was there she got the sliding door open while I was busily tending to her nest
in the garage. I couldn’t find her and when I saw the door ajar, I thought….NOOOOOOOO!!!!! Fortunately, nothing was amiss. Thank goodness! She was just galloping about all full of herself and her smartness.
And now for the Pigs! The Guinea Pigs that is. Wait until you hear the names.
The black, white, and tan curly coated one on the left is Lakeesha. The mostly brown girl on the right is Shaniqua. Isn’t that hilarious?!!
They of course, require very little care. Clean water in the bottle, guinea pig kibble, and a handful of hay. They like the hay the best! They don’t really care
if you give them any attention or not, quite content to scurry about taking care of their own business. I am merely a distraction in their day.
So folks, that is what I have been up to and now that my animal sitting is coming to an end, I will be back to share a recipe for some Flu-Fighter cookies with you. Imagine….cookies over a shot! Who wouldn’t be up for that ? AND I have some exciting news I am going to be revealing soon so stay tuned. Snuggle up next to the one you love to stay warm while the north wind snows and blows.
Toodles, Lynn Marie
