Winter arrived yesterday morning. It was a VERY chilly thirty some degrees this morning. When I was coming in from taking the dogs out just before daylight, there was a flock of robins in the trees in the front yard. I didn’t know they were still here but they are gone now–they were gathering for their flight south.
In preparation of the coming temperatures, I went outside and finished up a few things Monday afternoon. First, I took down the hanging basket that I posted a picture of last week. It was still beautiful but I knew of its’ impending doom so I threw it away. Next, I rounded up the three pumpkins that were nestled among the mums and decided to spruce them up and bring them in. I have noticed that some people spray their pumpkins with lacquer to make them shiny. Sure enough I had a can! So I gave them a quick spray and very quickly before they dried, I sprinkled them with just a wee bit of gold glitter. I brought them inside and they now have a two week reprieve from the trash can.
Here they are on the kitchen table. Next on my list was to get out my Thanksgiving decorations and add them to the Fall décor that I already had out.
The big one stayed on the table and I added a few things to it.
This small red dresser sits to the left of the TV in our Living Room.
On the other side of the TV is this little table. It was my grandmothers table and the first piece of furniture she and my grandpa bought when they set up housekeeping.
In the hallway on top of the bookcase is this arrangement. No new items this year but the glitter pumpkins. Just an accumulation of things from 35 years of marriage.
The last and the least in size is this little grouping. Does anyone else have these little plastic figurines? I got them back in the early 1980’s at the drugstore across the street from the bank where I worked. I don’t know if they are Hallmark or Russ. The little pilgrims are only one and a quarter inches high. The turkey is a whole two inches! They are such a treasure to me. This year I have them on a shelf in the hutch in the kitchen.
They (the weather people) say we will be having temperatures in the twenties and thirties for the next two weeks. The normal is fifty which sounds so much better to me but I guess we will take what we get, won’t we? I have been drinking lots of hot tea and eating lots of warm things. I hope you and your family make lots of memories this hear as the Holiday season begins.
