March finally made it…….yeah! She has come roaring in but I am counting on her going out like a lamb. It is Sunday evening and almost time to put another weekend to bed.
I still have a few snowflakes and snowmen hanging out in the house and their time to go has come. They are all about the house…..
These snowflakes hang in the windows on the front and the back of the house. Just in case they are the ones “summoning” the snow–they must go!
The dogs seem to have gotten use to the snow and cold. They know that the rabbits have been using the bushes around the house to seek shelter.
Whenever we go out to fill the bird feeder they are busily searching for any signs of activity.
While it has been snowy outside, I have been putting the finishing touches on some of my Vintage Calendar Bags. I like to scour the Antique Stores, E-bay, and garage sales for those old linen calendar towels that our moms and grandmothers use to have hanging in the kitchen. When the year changed we would delegate the old one to the dish towel drawer…..remember? I like to re-purpose those old towels into tote bags.
I have a Covered Bridge Bag from 1971
Bambi and Thumper from 1975
Bermuda from 1977
And another Covered Bridge from 1978.
I give them a canvas back and use vintage or vintage-looking fabrics to line them. I either make canvas handles or use a cotton webbing.
The calendar portion of the towel is sewn to the inside to form a pocket.
And then I sew in my label.
They make wonderful totes for projects, books, papers, knitting, shoes and many other things. I will soon have them on my Etsy Shop but you are all getting a sneak preview. Some of them are embellished with handmade finds…..
Bermuda has a puka-shell flower.
This covered bridge towel has some nuts that someone had made beads out of.
I have quite the collection of towels so will not run out of bags to sew for quite some time.
Stay warm and safe until Spring arrives!
